SO Loved Part 1

We are halfway through our second week at camp and I would love to share with you about our theme for the summer. Throughout the summer I will be back here to share a bit from the curriculum we are walking through each week. For now please enjoy this introduction:

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. - John 3:16

The theme we have chosen for camp this summer is So Loved. God’s love for us is huge! It’s wider, longer, higher, and deeper than we can ever fully understand. We live in a world where love has conditions, requirements, and is often questioned. It’s hard for us as humans to understand and accept the unconditional love God has to offer. If we do believe it’s true, we want to know what we need to do to earn it. The answer is nothing! God loves us because He is love. It’s who He is, and He created us in His image, not to look physically like Him but to have relationships and community just like Him. And most importantly, with Him.

Unfortunately, there is this ugly word SIN that is in the way. Sin separates us from God, who is love and is perfect, and because of that, He just can’t be around sin. But the story doesn’t end there! He has a plan - a plan that has already started and brings us hope and back into a relationship with Him where we know we are So Loved.

God sent His Son Jesus. He was up in heaven, a place we can’t fully imagine but trust is there. Jesus came to earth as a baby, dependent on His earthly mother and father to care for His needs. He was fully human and fully God. Again, this is hard for us to understand, but because He was fully human, he was uncomfortable at times, hungry, cold, and even tempted to do bad things. But He was fully God, which meant He was perfect and never sinned. Because of that, He was able to die on the cross in our place. The Bible tells us that the wages of sin is death. Well, He took our place and died for us. He did this because He So Loved us. Now if we believe in our hearts Jesus is the Son of God and say it with our mouths, we are welcomed into heaven, for eternal life, when we die at the end of our life on this earth. The Bible says we will get to live forever in heaven with God!

The Bible says we are So Loved that we are called children of God! Now, knowing you are so loved, how will you live like you are loved?
