Then and Now - 1980's

In just over seven weeks we will be gathering together to celebrate 75 wonderful years of YFBC history! {please join us on June 4th - details here and let us know you are coming here} It was June 1941 when sixty young people from all over the province of Saskatchewan gathered on this very yard we sit on today.   They came for a weekend to focus on the Lord, away from the pressures felt from the secular life pressing in on them day to day. They gathered for praise and worship, evangelism and revival.  These young people paid 50¢ each to participate in this first weekend retreat, sleeping in the hay loafs and eating on long planks of wood pushed together as dining tables beneath the trees.  Inspirational talks were given, digging into Romans 12:1-8, encouraging these young people to live for Jesus in a  life serving Him.

Since 1941, the mission of sharing Jesus and being a place to serve has remained. Along with the unchanging mission and focus for the YFBC ministry, many other items in our history have remained the same as well.

In this edition of Throwback Thursday,  I would like to show you a few then-and-now photos showcasing our summer camp program in the mid-1980's and today.

Although the permanent summer camp program only started in 1965 (and the ASN program beginning in the 1980s), the focus of sharing Jesus and providing a place to serve has been the central mission of this yard since 1941 and continues to be the reason YFBC exists today.  We still have a focus on Biblical teaching through chapel, memorizing scripture, campfire gatherings, and cabin devotions. We carry on Henry W. Friesen's desire to reach children for the Lord.  The desire that pushed to start our permanent summer camp program 50 years ago!

Along with this, since 1965 and based on the model starting in 1941, the YFBC summer program has continued to run with young people serving at camp from surrounding churches.  These young people dedicate their summer to serve at camp, desiring to break down barriers and create a fun and inviting community.  Camp is a place for trying new things, making new friends, and unplugging from the daily pressures and distractions.  Camp gets kids (and also our adult special need campers) outside, running around, exploring, creating and accomplishing. Camp has so much value - then and now! (Apply today and don't miss out on being a camper in 2016!)

So I leave you with a few more photos from back in the day that could be now . . .
