Long /lôNG,läNG/: 1. From end to end. 2. Lasting a great amount of time. 3. Great extent. 4. Great distance. 5. A degree or extreme to which a course of action is taken, ‘go to great lengths’. 6. Greatest of the dimensions.
I just can’t get over the length of God’s love for us. The length He went to bring us back to Him so He can be our Father and we can be His children. The cross.
The wages of sin is death but Jesus became flesh and blood like us in order to die in our place. Through dying and resurrecting He could break the power of death and make us new. This is huge love.
He went from heaven to hell for us. That is a great extent. A long way to go to love. To send His perfect and sinless Son to die in our place. That is long love. Length is used for the greatest dimension when measuring an object. I couldn’t think of a better way of describing the death and resurrection of Jesus within God’s plan of redemption for the sake of loving us. The greatest act of His love, to die for me. To die for you. To die for the world because He so loved the world.
“Christ arrives right on time to make this happen. He didn’t, and doesn’t, wait for us to get ready. He presented himself for this sacrificial death when we were far too weak and rebellious to do anything to get ourselves ready. And even if we hadn’t been so weak, we wouldn’t have known what to do anyway. We can understand someone dying for a person worth dying for, and we can understand how someone good and noble could inspire us to selfless sacrifice. But God put his love on the line for us by offering his Son in sacrificial death while we were of no use whatever to him.
Now that we are set right with God by means of this sacrificial death, the consummate blood sacrifice, there is no longer a question of being at odds with God in any way. If, when we were at our worst, we were put on friendly terms with God by the sacrificial death of his Son, now that we’re at our best, just think of how our lives will expand and deepen by means of his resurrection life! Now that we have actually received this amazing friendship with God, we are no longer content to simply say it in plodding prose. We sing and shout our praises to God through Jesus, the Messiah!” Romans 5:6-11 (Message)
That’s long love.
And now, when we believe in our hearts and confess with our mouths that Jesus is Lord, we sit in this, His victory over death, and nothing can separate us from His love. Nothing! Let yourself be wrapped in that love today! (Romans 8:35-39)
He was wounded for the wrong we did; He was crushed for the evil we did. The punishment, which made us well was given to Him, and we are healed because of His wounds. - Isaiah 53:5
